In a distant post apocalyptic future, a slow uncovering of 19th century industry is being made one the moors of Yorkshire. For an incalculable number of centuries humankind has slowly relearned civilization from the scraps and traces leftover from the previous age. Daily life is hard and slow, consisting mostly of hunting and gathering. Still, life has its small pleasures, Mugs of Real Ale are drunk and chong is smoked in the evening gatherings and communal meals, accompanied by song and story-telling. One day, a party of hunters discover a machine in the ruins of a mill situated in one of the valleys near what was once known as Todmorden. They bring it back to the village where they are to study and analyse its engineering and gradually piece together enough information to begin buliding their own rudimentary machines...
